Itinerary #1
 (Suggested by Captain Doug Coe of Traveler)

 

Days 1 and 2 - Eleuthera to Harbour Island - 4 nautical miles

The island of Eleuthera, 100 miles long and two miles wide, is where your charter begins.  Eleuthera means freedom and it was here that British pilgrims landed after fleeing from religious persecution in Bermuda. On Day Two sail for Harbour Island, home of some of the best local night-life in the Bahamas.  The quaint town of Dunmore dates back to the 17th century and features streets lined with pastel-coloured houses.

Day 3 - Harbour Island to Highbourne Cay - 70 nautical miles

Stop at Allans Cay, known for its giant iguanas, before continuing the passage to Highbourne Cay.  Enjoy its world-class diving spots and wrecks on the coral reefs, breaking through the water's surface.

Day 4 - Highbourne Cay to Staniel Cay - 40 nautical miles

Staniel Cay, sprinkled with brightly coloured houses, is the destination. Visit the Thunderball Grotto, where the eponymous James Bond movie was filmed. Staniel Cay is a great place to enjoy some shallow diving.

Day 5 - Staniel Cay to Warderick Wells Cay - 20 nautical miles

the first stop today is Big Major's Spot, a protected cove that is perfect for water-skiing and water sports.  Then head for Warderick Wells Cay, which form the largest part of the Exuma Sea and Land Park, for excellent snorkeling locations and underwater trails.

Days 6 and 7 - Warderick Wells Cay to Nassau - 47 nautical miles

Sail to Nassau on New Providence on the final full day.  Head for the lively night- life of Atlantis.  

 

Itinerary #2

Day 1 - Board in Nassau and cruise to Allen's Cay.  Explore the nearby beaches, meet the large population of Iguanas which come out to greet the visitors.  Good snorkeling and fishing around this collection of small islands and reefs.

Day 2 - Cruise to Hawksbill Cay.  Delight in the beautiful expanse of beaches and climb the large hill for a panoramic view of the anchorage. Walk the trails to explore ruins of Loyalist plantations dating from 1783 - 1830.

Day 3 - Cruise to Wardrick Wells, headquarters of the Exuma Land and Sea Park and be amazed at the awesome display of watercolors and sand banks.  Visit the headquarters and take advantage of the walking trails and snorkeling reefs and check out the Sperm Whale skeleton on the beach.

Day 4 - Cruise to Staniel Cay and visit the quaint settlement sprinkled with brightly colored houses.  The highlight of the area the "Thunderball Cave", where snorkelers can visit the site of such movie hits as "Thunderball" and "Splash"!  A find dinner or drinks at the Staniel Cay Yacht Club is always a great Out Island experience.

Day 5 - Cruise the Pipe Creek area and explore the multitude of interconnecting islands, rocks and sand bars.  The fishing, exploring and snorkeling opportunities will satisfy all concerned.

Day 6 - Cruise Shroud Cay and take the dingy and wave runners riding through unspoiled mangrove creeks and lunch on a spectacular beach on the ocean.

Day 7 - Stop by Norman's Cay to snorkel on the airplane wreck, then cruise to Nassau for a visit to Atlantis and a night of celebrating a wonderful and unique vacation.

Note - There are 120 miles in the Exuma Island chain offering a very extensive cruising area for repeat visits or trips longer than one week.
